I have owned a Model 19-3, 6-inch barrel, nickel finish. It's a beauty, has a serious single action hair trigger, very accurate. Would never get rid of it, for any price.

I'd pay $1,900 for an exact replica in a heartbeat.
Comment on: Wednesday, August 21st, 2019 by TRUCKER PETE
Agree 100%. S&W should've replicated the 19 to spec or not all. That said, I'd buy the new classic had they left off the PC lock. That ruins all their new revolvers for me. I'd rather save for longer for the original.

love S&W revolvers. Carry a 64 daily :)

I'm definitely old school when it comes to my Smiths. Would buy an old model 19-3 any day (considering the price is comparable) over a new "Classic." I don't care for the sleeved barrel design, integrated lock mechanism and the lack of hammer mounted firing pin of the reintroduced model. It just doesn't have the classy feel/sleekness of the old gun. Remember: There's nothing a little bit of heaven and a .357 can't handle! Bill Jordan's baby...

I bought one in 1972. Sent it back to the factory b/c it wouldn't eject, even .38's. I had to press the ejector rod against the bench to get the empties out. Came back with the problem not fixed. It was beautiful, especially the goncalo alves grips. Very accurate with a great trigger. I sold it in 1976. I don't know if the ejector problem ever got fixed.

That new wood is some of the ugliest wood I've seen
Comment on: Tuesday, August 13th, 2019 by KEVIN WHITE
I carried a Model 19 for years as a law enforcement officer. That requires thousands of rounds of .357 ammunition. Never had an issue. I think the criticism about the forcing cone is overstated.

I can't stand modern Smith handguns. They all have needless safteys. Like the manual saftey on the m&p 2.0

This was the first handgun I ever shot. I was 16 I think it was so cool I felt like this biggest badass in the world holding that thing.i would do yard work and alike with my buddy for his dad and this was how we got paid at the end of the day he would hand us this revolver and a box some of 38s and say have at it boys lol the first time he loaded it with a 357 in the middle somewhere as a surprise I hated it lol like a ringing through my hands like a baseball bat. I was hooked, got my first gun 2 years later when I turned 18 havent looked back. Seeing this video on my home page brought a smile to my face

The new Smith and Wesson revolvers suck! Quality has declined. MIM parts no thanks. And that Hillary Hole has to go!

Sitting here with my 19-5 while I watch this vid. 2 1/2 in bbl ,nickel plated. I remember when I went to gun shop with my dad when he bought it. I will never get rid of it , best handgun ever.

I like both the old Smiths and new. I kind of prefer the new ones because that supports the factory. This day and age I believe we to support them. I also like the modern metallurgy and mim parts not to mention the quality of modern CNC machining.
Comment on: Wednesday, August 7th, 2019 by GWIDWOCK
I have the model 19-3 in all barrel lengths in blue. One 19-4 4" nickle and all of them are like new condition. It is an iconic piece of machinery. I just love 'em. Thanks for the video. I'm not crazy about the new ones with MIM parts and shrouded barrels. Go to gun auctions and get the real thing.

You know that conjugating verbs confuses most of your audience and labels you a dinosaur, but Im glad that do did done it.

The reasons someone buys a new revolver today are much different from the reasons we bought them in the twentieth century. New shooters buy them for the novelty and the experience they offer. Even if new shooters appreciate the romantic and historical ties to them that people who learned to shoot with them have, there are not enough true classics for sale, especially at affordable prices. So the faux classic versions may be an insult to many lovers of these wonderful revolvers, but they are the only practical option for many of us. I give S&W praise for producing a quality gun at a fair price in todays market. And I truly appreciate that it is blued.

The only reason you wouldnt buy one is because you are an old fart that knows quality and class. From one old fart to another,,,,keep up the good work on your very informative videos.

I swear all these guns are at least 9000 times louder and scarier than I expect them to be
Comment on: Tuesday, August 6th, 2019 by WONDERDEAN
Have a 19 - 2 which I bought back in the early 70s. Changed out the grips back then because the cylinder release was taking out my thumb . Replace them with Pachmayr grips. What makes this gun so nice isnt that its old but rather that its more detailed it its manufacturing. Its not that they dont do that today its that it was the rule more so than the exception.

Comment on: Monday, August 5th, 2019 by THEFALLINOFFICER971
If given a choice, I would still choose the early 70's over the 2018. I truly love the thicker hand grips on the older Smith's. Just my preference....

I love the classic S&W revolvers. The fact that I only own 3 proves I am not a collector. I have rebuilt a few more. My favorites are the 686, model 17, and the model 15 in that order. The k22 was made in 1948 and is my favorite target handgun. The 15 was made in 58 and is a very good 38spl. Rarely gets out of the safe. Perfect condition! My absolute favorite carry gun in the back country is the 686 6". I spend weeks a year in very remote locations.

Beautiful wood handles! The darker glossy wood one is my favorite. Walnut?

Classic is simply a marketing term that is employed to draw in those that are wanting a old school revolver . Those buyers are likely young and dont have the knowledge or experience to know the differences. Perhaps the buyers feel that these classic revolvers will have future collector value. I think that videos like this will educate those that have taken the time to view them.

My favorite S&W 357 is the Model 28. A really rare oldie but certainly a great shooter. I had one 35 years ago. I made the mistake of trading it for a Harley Davidson FLH Shovelhead.

Is the new model 19 recessed? Looking at the video it looked like the old was recessed and the newer one was not. I watched the video while I was grilling and may have missed if that was mentioned.
Comment on: Sunday, August 4th, 2019 by CMONSTERZ
I have one of these (new 19). It's actually a well made gun. I do like it. It is DEFINITELY a very pretty gun. That said, it lacks the pure beauty of the original. The bluing is different (I think that some of this is that the polish isn't quite as good underneath the bluing). I would like to not have the key lock hole. That said, I got over that blemish a very long time ago. As for MIM parts, Smith has used them for a very long time (as have other manufacturers). I've never broken one and I've been shooting for decades.
