I bought this rifle 2 days ago and went to the range with it yesterday. I had a wicked sense of unease feeling like I was going to push the bullet in and set of the powder and blow myself up. I have never fired black powder before... by the 5th shot I was a lot more comfortable. I was impressed with the accuracy as well as the fact it has almost no kick. The ramrod extension is annoying... I was also a little annoyed having to clean it every 3-4 shots fired (as suggested in the book,) but I know when hunting I won't have that many chances so no big deal... I didn't use bore butter the first 2 rounds so pushing the bullet in was brutal. Once I had it all together and was comfortable, it was awesome. Any tips for faster loading are always appreciated :)

This seems even more complicated than a flintlock or percussion musket. Both of which can easily be loaded faster than this.

There's 2 ends to a pirodex pellet. The rounded end has a special igniting surface and should always go in first. Turn em around and you `may` get a misfire

Other than the primers, everything else is illegal to hunt in Colorado with. No pelletezed powder, no sabots, no inline muzzle loaders.

You mention the cost of using practice projectiles versus hunting projectiles but I dont think that is a real concern...consi dering you can only shoot about 6 shots every 10 hours with black powder...and yes, im a jerk. Love your channel...still hate black powder, lol!

As a black powder shooter with over 35 years of experience, that ramrod extension is a joke. Every time you want to reload you need to find the extension and put it on before you reload. That makes for a really slow follow up shot in the field. Not every shot is a one shot kill. I would think experienced shooters will see this as design flaw and buy something else.

Thanks for sharing guys - I was wondering what a 'modern' was like to shoot. My fun times are with a traditional "Kentucky" rifle and a Ruger Old Army Revolver using loose powder and lead balls. you can have a lot of "slow" fun with black powder shooting ... but you HAVE to wash then lube the guns thoroughly afterwards when back home - I use lots of boiling water to scrub-out. - Oh Sootch mate - how about "God bless NEW Zealand" too ?

Some Demoncrat friends told me that you can put a bump-stock and a binary trigger on that and turn it into a full semi-auto assault rifle, is that true?

ONE smooth stroke .NO pounding. It'll deform the bullet.

Now, I have a question sootch00, can these rifles be safely fired with one pellet of powder, or is there a risk of just one pellet not having enough power to fire the bullet/sabot? I'm looking for a way to use these rifle with less recoil while my shoulder heals.

Never hammer the bullet down with the ram rod. Push it down with one steady motion.

Interesting. I always pronounced it as "saBOW". Never knew it was pronounced as 'sABBIT' (rabbit). Seeing Sootch load the rifle, takes me back to watching the scene of "Glory" when the soldiers were having fun shooting their muskets (or rifles) and Matthew Broderick sets them straight to shoot under pressure.

Great video .... BUT .... according to Sharp ... "a good soldier can fire (3) rounds per minute" Modern vs Old .... "just give me that old time religion." Either way .... you've got only ONE shot at a charging Grizzly. Make it COUNT!!

And some people whine about using a Ruger #1 or some other single shot. They'd really fall over dead having to use a muzzle loader.

Comment on: Monday, December 30th, 2019 by CHAR AZNABLE
no need to smack projectile into powder a firm press until stop and or a bounce of rod into projectile ,should also use SAME pressure and or technique for accuracy as well as shoot with rod installed for consistent harmonics too .when loaded for extended time ain't bad idea to recheck seated bullet

Putting & taking that extension on & off every time seems like too many steps you need to take. Surely there's an easier way.

Paint markers for marking your ramrod. Red for Hornaday bullets. Silver for lead bullets.
